The origins of the Moon and Sixpence Puppet Theatre go back to the early 1980s and was the brainchild of two young men from Tipperary, Pat Lanigan-Ryan and Martin Molony.
Originally based in Thurles, the two friends set up Ireland’s only travelling marionette theatre, visiting schools and festivals in the four corners of Ireland. The enterprise played to each of their strengths. Pat is a gifted craftsman, whose attention to detail has been the hallmark of the miniature worlds in which the Moon and Sixpence marionettes live their lives. Martin’s interest in young people’s theatre was evident in his focus on children’s communication for his university dissertation. This interest continues today through his work as a lecturer at Dublin City University, providing a module in “Puppetry & Communication”.
